PS4 Christmas Buyer’s Guide – The Essentials

Posted on

Black Friday is right around the corner, which means it’s time to start looking for gifts to give to all the important people in your life. If your child, spouse, parent, or friend is a PS4 gamer, you have plenty of options this year, and this buyer’s guide should help make things a little easier for you. This list also includes some of the recent game releases, however, if you’re also buying the console for someone, then you should check out the best PS4 exclusives, as this is where the best titles are at. You should also note that some of the games on this list, whilst brand new releases, didn’t quite grab the stellar rating expected – however, expect to find them at a bargain price within the coming weeks. It’s that value which could, in turn, actually make them a fantastic purchase. With that said, now let’s take a look at a few of the essentials that can make a fantastic gift for any PS4 gamer this Christmas…

A Second Controller

Price: $60

For the Gamer: With a roommate, significant other or family. Also great for extending battery life by switching between two.

Description: Controllers are just as expensive as games these days, and with more titles being released that support local multiplayer, a second controller is a good thing to have, not to mention an accessory that many gamers won’t buy themselves- making it a perfect gift.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Price: $60

For the Gamer: Who is competitive and loves playing against other gamers. Great for FPS fans.

Description: One of those games is Black Ops 3, arguably the biggest holiday title of 2015. With three deep and engaging game modes (all of which can be played by more than one person), this game will last your PS4 lover well into the new year.

A Gaming Headset

Price: Varies (under $100)

For the Gamer: Who loves chatting while playing and plays well into the night.

Description: PS4Home did a headset buyers guide which goes more in depth on all the different options available when it comes to PS4 headsets, and you should definitely check it out- these accessories make fantastic gifts. Headsets increase immersion thanks to giving the player a better audio experience, they cancel outside noise for the gamer and in-game noise for everyone else, and they’re a huge step up from the mic and earpiece that come with the PS4.

Fallout 4

Price: $60

For the Gamer: Who loves sci-fi, doesn’t have internet or enjoys playing alone.

Description: One of the most highly anticipated games of 2015, Fallout 4 was also arguably the best single-player title released this year. If your gamer doesn’t have an internet connection, he or she wont be able to get the full experience of all the other games on this list, but Fallout 4 will be perfect for them. It’s a sci-fi adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world, and there’s so much content that any gamer will find it hard to run out of things to do.

PS+ Year Membership

Price: $50

For the Gamer: On a budget who uses his PS4 mostly to play online.

Description: If your gamer does have internet, though, the PS4 requires a membership to be able to play games online. Called “PlayStation Plus,” these memberships are sold in gift card form. Annual memberships are around $50, but you could also use a one or three month subscription as a stocking stuffer.

Star Wars Battlefront

Price: $60

For the Gamer: Who loves Star Wars and enjoys online multiplayer games.

Description: Hype is at an all-time high for the new Star Wars movie being released this December, and what better way to enhance the thrill of the movie than by taking on the role of a storm trooper, rebel soldier, or even iconic characters like Han Solo and Darth Vader in a gorgeous video game?

A Season Pass

Price: Varies (around $50)

For the Gamer:

Description: Let’s say your gamer already owns Black Ops 3 and Battlefront. The best way to enhance their experience is to buy them a season pass for all the extra downloadable content that will be released for the titles over the course of the next year. The Call of Duty season pass, for instance, is a $50 purchase for four $15 DLC content packs- a great deal if your gamer already owns and loves the base games.

Gaming Chair

Price: Varies (less than $100)

For the Gamer: Who takes playtime seriously and doesn’t have a comfortable place to sit while enjoying the PS4.

Description: Gaming chairs change the way a player enjoys his game. There are a wide variety of chairs available, but they’re all designed to give a gamer the ultimate PS4 experience by providing comfort and functionality. Most of them have speakers built into the headrests in order to provide a full surround sound experience. Check out our gaming chair buyer’s guide to learn more.

Need for Speed

Price: $60 (Reports say it’ll be $35 on Black Friday)

For the Gamer: Who loves movies like Fast and Furious and gets a kick out of cars and racing.

Description: The newest entry in one of gaming’s most classic franchises hit the PS4 this November, and armchair drivers across the world will get a kick out of the game if they haven’t already picked it up. Developer Ghost Games promises a ton of free updates and improvements to NFS in the future, so this’ll definitely be the gift that keeps on giving.
