What You Need to Know About Restoring PS4 Data
Generation Z PS4 players don’t realize how much easier they have it then previous generations did in the early days of the gaming industry. One benefit that few people talk about is the fact that it is much easier to restore lost data than it used to be.
Anybody that grew up in the 1990s remembers the frustrations of using Nintendo cartridges to play their favorite video games. These cartridges would not work very well if they accumulated a lot of dust. You would need to blow into them to try to get them working again. In the worst case scenarios, some of your important data could get lost due to small abrasions to the undercarriage of a cartridge or too much debris accumulating inside.
Data loss is still an issue in 2019, even with modern PS4 systems. This is an issue that someone brought up in a PlayStation forum post a couple years ago. The good news is that recovering data is a lot easier than it used to be. There are several options that you can consider if you lost data on your PS4.
Try to access data from the cloud
PS4 systems retain a lot of data on the cloud. This is great news if there is a problem with your PS4 system. Data on the cloud is completely independent of your own hardware, so you might be able to get copies of it. Of course, this is going to depend on the game, your settings and the time that the data was lost. Some data might be not be recoverable from the cloud, especially if you made sure your privacy settings were pretty stringent.
Try using a USB drive to recover your files
Sometimes you have gotten pretty far along in your game before you suffer data loss. Downloading the game through the PlayStation store is not an option, unless you want to go through the frustration of completing the entire process over again. Your data also might not have gotten saved to the cloud, so your only option is to restore it from your own hardware.
One of the easiest ways to do this is by storing all of your PlayStation files on a USB stick. From there, you will be able to use a data recovery tool like R-Undelete to try restoring any files that have been deleted.
Consider downloading games again in the PlayStation store
Perhaps you didn’t have any saved data on your PlayStation game. You might have only just started using the game, so you didn’t get far enough along that you need to restore any of it yet.
In this case, you might not want to go through the long, arduous process of restoring all of the game files from your drive with a sophisticated data recovery tool. Instead, you might just want to go with the easiest option available. Simply go to the PlayStation store and download the games again.
Of course, modern data recovery tools are pretty quick and efficient. However, it will be a lot faster just to download the games again if you didn’t have any saved files that you are concerned about.
Restore PS4 Data as Easily as Possible
Restoring data from a PS4 system isn’t always going to be easy. Fortunately, there are a lot of options that you can consider. Make sure that you know what they are and choose the easiest and most reliable one.
