Will the PS4 be Compatible with PS3 Games?
Gaikai CEO, David Perry, announced during the PlayStation Meeting an important news about the compatibility of the PS4 with PS3 games. He provided details about the collaboration of Sony and Gaikai, which can help people stay connected to a vast selection of games that they used to play. However, there is no backward compatibility feature, and this means that the PS4 is not capable of playing PS3 games natively. Nevertheless, all is not lost because according to Perry, plans are being formulated to allow gamers to play any games found in the PS catalog using their Sony devices.
In addition, Gaikai aims to provide users a chance to stream PS3 games sometime in 2014. The service is expected to be available in the U.S initially, and it will be released in several other countries at a later date.
Can You Play PS4 Games Even Without Internet Connection?
Sony gave a press conference that caused great excitement to the audience. According to Sony, the PS4 would be capable of supporting used games, and there is no internet connection requirement for anyone to play a game.
There’s a catch to this announcement, though. You need to subscribe to the PS Plusbefore you can play games online. Thus, this has put an end to the speculation about Sony following Microsoft by making the PS Plus subscription mandatory. At $5 per month, this would add at least $60 on the introductory price of the video gaming console.
In case Sony allows instant access to various non-gaming online apps without the PS Plus, then this will cause more people to be satisfied with the latest system. However, it is worth noting that while it may be a great way to play free online games with the PS3, a subscription to the PS Plus offers an outstanding value for your money because of added perks to members.
How Much Will PS4 Games Cost?
On an interview with the CNBC, Jack Tretton (Sony’s CEO) implied that PS4 games would not cost over $60. He added that there would be free play models including games that start at 99 cents to 60 dollars. Hence, gamers have become even more excited about the release of PS4 games because of their reasonable cost. If the video game console would be around for the next 6 years or so, a $60 price point this year means that PS4 games are quite cheap.
